Portrait
I wonder about the brilliance
Of the sunset in India
The lively streets of Mumbai
Live in my imagination
You tell me so much about your home
And your words flow like a river
Through my mind painting a portrait
Of your colorful world.
The colors, scents, tastes and sounds
Are beautiful to me
Coming from such a sterile world
Your stories fascinate
The picture starts out stark white
Empty, like my world seems without you
And then when you speak of home
The colors dance on the canvas of my imagination
They spring alive
They dance and writhe
As the picture takes shape
And the result is stunning
I long to meet the people you love
See the sights you’ve seen
Know the things you know
About your homeland.
I want to take them all down
In the portfolio of my mind
Forever to keep
The images of your world in mine
